Los Angeles Angels prospect Kaleb Cowart continued his mini tear Thursday with his first home run of the AFL season in the Scottsdale Scorpions' 3-2 loss to the Peoria Javelinas.
Cowart sat out Wednesday's game but picked up right were he left off from Tuesday's solid line (1-for-4, two runs), smacking a solo shot to start a potential ninth-inning rally. Unfortunately for Scottsdale, the rest of the Scorpions failed to follow his lead.
Fellow Angels prospect Randal Grichuk managed to keep things going with a walk in the at bat following Cowart's but a strikeout and a double play quickly thwarted Scottsdale's chance at a comeback. Grichuk had a solid day overall, going 1-for-3 with a run and a stolen base to go with the walk.
In 17 AFL games this season, Cowart has a .200/.265/.283 line with eight RBI, seven runs and 17 total bases. As for Grichuk, he's batted to the tune of a .228/.297/.351 line with five RBI, nine runs and 20 total bases.
