Angels minor league center fielder Travis Witherspoon made his only hit count Wednesday as his triple scored two runs in the Scottsdale Scorpians 8-2 AFL win over the Mesa Solar Sox.
Witherspoon has struggled in the Arizona Fall League so far with a .219/.288/.411 line and 28 strikeouts in 73 at bats but go 3-for-5 with four RBI on Tuesday. But after striking out in his first two at bats Wednesday, it looked like he was right back to his slumping ways.
After being hit by a pitch in the bottom of the sixth though, Witherspoon clearly found all the motivation he needed. With two on and two out in the next inning, Witherspoon smacked a triple to clear the bases and extend Scottsdale's lead to 8-0.
Third baseman Kaleb Cowart, another Angels prospect, road the pine Wednesday despite going 1-for-4 with two runs and a RBI the previous day.
