Ervin Santana trade: Royals RHP says 2012 season was 'bad luck'

After being traded to the Kansas City Royals, former Los Angeles Angels right-handed pitcher Ervin Santana spoke to the Kansas City media about his disappointing 2012 season in Southern California.

The media inquired about what potential problems could have caused him to finish the season with a 5.16 ERA and his lowest strikeout total (133) since 2009.

""I don't have any physical problem, everything was good, I just had bad luck," said Santana.

Santana was part of a starting staff that failed to meet lofty expectations with the Halos. After signing C.J. Wilson and trading for Zack Greinke, they were thought to have one of the best starting rotations in baseball. But the team would not pan out the way they anticipated, and Angels pitchers had a collective 4.02 ERA in 2012, eighth in the American League.

Santana had spent his entire career with the Angels, who signed him as an amateur free agent in 2005.
