Arizona Fall League: Angels' Travis Witherspoon shows off power

Travis Witherspoon picked up plenty of extra bases in Saturday's Arizona Fall League action.

Los Angeles Angels outfield prospect Travis Witherspoon put on a power display for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League, as the Scorpions played to a ten-inning, 8-8 tie with the Phoenix Desert Dogs on Saturday night.

The center-fielder Witherspoon went 2-4 from the plate and got Scottsdale back in the game with a two-run home run in the sixth inning. That home run pulled the Scorpions within one run. Earlier in the game, Witherspoon hit an RBI double in the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2.

Witherspoon is now hitting .250 in the Arizona Fall League. In 121 games of the 2012 season, he split his time between advanced-A Inland Empire and double-A Arkansas, hitting .268 with 13 home runs and 48 RBI.

Angels pitcher Kevin Johnson also appeared in the game, but with less favorable results. Johnson pitched only two-thirds of an inning, surrendering three runs on five hits.

Scottsdale has an 8-8 record and features many Angels players, and next plays on Monday at 11:35 a.m. PT.
