Angels' center field prospect Travis Witherspoon hit a home run as the Scottsdale Scorpions lost to the Peoria Javelinas 7-2 on Tuesday in the Arizona Fall League.
Witherspoon hit a solo shot to left field in the sixth inning with no men on to give the Scorpions their final run of the game. Witherspoon was 1-4 with the home run, one walk and a strikeout during the game. He is now hitting .219/.286/.438 with two home runs in the AFL. He also has 10 strikeouts in 32 at bats.
Third base prospect Kaleb Cowart was the only other Angels' position player in the game. He went 1-3 with a walk and a strikeout. Cowart has struggled in the AFL so far, getting just five hits in 25 at bats with only one extra base hit.
Buddy Boshers came pitched a scoreless fifth inning, striking out two batters in the process to lower his ERA to 10.13. His fellow pitching prospect Ryan Chaffee didn't fare nearly as well. Chaffee gave up three runs off two hits and a walk without recording an out. Chaffee now has a 16.20 ERA, giving up six runs in 3 1/3 innings pitched.
