Francisco Cordero Linked To Los Angeles Angels, Per Reports

The Los Angeles Angels of Ahaneim are one of four teams in the race to acquire free-agent reliever Francisco Cordero, acording to the pitcher's agent, says the Los Angeles Times.

It is unclear whether they are recruiting the veteran right-hander as a closer or set-up man. The Angels have already added veteran right-hander LaTroy Hawkins to their bullpen

The Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays are the other three teams in the hunt.

Cordero recorded his 300th career save with the Cincinnati Reds this past June, becoming only the 22nd player to reach that mark and ranks 2nd all time on that list among active players. No one in Major League Baseball has more saves since 2007 than Cordero.

Cordero's agent, Bean Stringfellow, was asked how the Angels planned on using Cordero and responded, "That's a delicate situation. I'd rather not comment." He did add that the Angels "were one of the first teams to contact me [about Cordero], and we've had regular contact with them throughout the winter -- they've been pretty consistent."

Stringfellow added that Cordero is expected to make a decision "by the end of this week."
