The Los Angeles Angels on Friday announced the coaching staff for Advanced Class A minor league affiliate in San Bernardino, the Inland Empire 66ers of the California League. Former major league catcher Bill Hasselman has been tabbed to manage the 66ers.
Hasselman was hired on January 9 by new Halos assistant general manager Scott Servais. Hasselman most recently managed the Bakersfield Blaze in the California League in 2010, a Texas Rangers affiliate.
Brandon Emmanuel, who was the pitching coach for the Angels' Double A affiliate in Arkansas last season, will be the new pitching coach in San Bernardino. Longtime major league first baseman Paul Sorrento will serve as the hitting coach for the 66ers in 2012.
Greg Spence will return to Inland Empire as trainer, as will Ben Gaal as strength and conditioning coach. Both Spence and Gaal held the same position for the 66ers last season.
The minor league season begins for the 66ers on April 5, as they face their rival Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, a Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate, on the road to open the season.
