Angels Focus On Wild Card, Battle A's

The Angels need a combination of 10 wins and Red Sox losses to win the wild card, and that's before considering the Rays.

With the American League West no longer in play, the Los Angeles Angels set their sights on their long odds of capturing the wild card. The Angels host the Oakland Athletics on Saturday night in Anaheim, with a lot of work ahead of them if they are to make the playoffs.

The Angels are three and a half games back of the Boston Red Sox with five games to play, and also trail the Tampa Bay Rays by a game. The Angels have no real room for error, as a combination of three Angels losses and Red Sox wins will eliminate the Halos.

Jerome Williams makes his final regular season start for the Angels, hoping to continue his late-season resurgence. The 29-year old Williams is 3-0 with a 3.22 ERA, and at home this year has allowed just two runs in 17 innings.

Guillermo Moscoso gets the start for the A's. He got a no-decision on September 13 against the Angels in Oakland, allowing three runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Saturday's 6:05 p.m. PDT game will be televised by KCOP. For more news and information on the Angels, be sure to read Halos Heaven.
