Jered Weaver Drops Appeal Of Six-Game Suspension, Will Start Saturday In Toronto

Angels' pitcher Jered Weaver has decided to drop the appeal of his six-game suspension, levied by Major League Baseball for throwing near the head of Alex Avila in Detroit on Sunday, July 31 in Detroit, per Sam Miller of the Orange County Register. The move by Weaver, coupled with Monday's off day, helps the Angels at a time when their rotation is already hurting on the back end.

Joel Pineiro has a 14.85 ERA since the All-Star break and has been demoted to the bullpen, so the Angels have to scramble for a replacement Wednesday in The Bronx to face the Yankees. Manager Mike Scioscia has already chosen his Wednesday starter, though that starter has not yet been revealed. Hisanori Takahashi appears to be the leading candidate for that start, opined Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.

Weaver, who pitched nine scoreless innings Friday night against Seattle to lower his ERA to an MLB-best 1.78, will start Saturday in Toronto.
