Angels Can't Solve Blake Beavan, Fall To Mariners 5-1
In a battle of rookie pitchers Saturday night in Anaheim, Blake Beavan got the best of Tyler Chatwood as the Mariners beat the Angels 5-1 in the middle game of a three-game weekend series. The loss snapped an eight-game home winning streak by the Angels over the Mariners, dating back to 2010. Beavan pitched eight innings for his third win of the season.

Angels' pitcher Jered Weaver has decided to drop the appeal of his six-game suspension, levied by Major League Baseball for throwing near the head of Alex Avila in Detroit on Sunday, July 31 in Detroit, per Sam Miller of the Orange County Register. The move by Weaver, coupled with Monday's off day, helps the Angels at a time when their rotation is already hurting on the back end.
