Chatwood, Beavan Face Off In Battle Of Rookie Pitchers In Anaheim

The Angels have beaten Seattle eight straight times in Anaheim, dating back to 2010.

Saturday night in Anaheim a pair of rookie pitchers will face off as Tyler Chatwood and the Angels face Blake Beavan and the Mariners in the second game of a three-game series. After winning Friday's series opener 1-0 in 10 innings, the Angels look to continue their home mastery over the Mariners. The Angels have beaten Seattle eight straight times in Anaheim, dating back to 2010.

Chatwood is 6-7 with a 3.93 ERA in 20 starts in what has been an up-and-down rookie season. At times the 21-year old Chatwood has shown flashes of brilliance, as he did two starts ago in Baltimore when he allowed two runs in seven innings and didn't issue a walk. However, he has also struggled and on the season has nearly as many walks (58) as strikeouts (60).

This is Chatwood's first start against Seattle.

Beavan came to Seattle as part of the Cliff Lee trade in July 2010, and tonight is making his sixth major league start. The 22-year old is 2-2 with a 3.24 ERA through five starts. Beavan joins teammate and fellow rookie Michael Pineda as the only Mariner pitchers ever to pitch a quality start in each of his first five MLB outings.

Saturday night's 6:05 p.m. game will be televised by Fox Sports West. For more news and information on the Angels, or on tonight's game, be sure to read Halos Heaven.
