Williams, Angels Look For Much Needed Road Win Against Mariners

The Halos are 3-8 in their last 11 road games to fall to 34-34 away from home this season.

The Los Angeles Angels will look to solve their recent road woes on Tuesday night as they battle the Seattle Mariners in the second game of a three-game series at Safeco Field in Seattle. The Halos are 3-8 in their last 11 road games to fall to 34-34 away from home this season. Jerome Williams makes his second start for the Angels, facing 24-year old Anthony Vasquez in his second start ever in the major leagues.

Williams beat the Baltimore Orioles on August 21, allowing one run in seven innings. It was the first major league win for Williams since 2005. He pitched mop-up duty in Texas on Friday, allowing four runs in 1 2/3 innings after he entered the game with the Angels down 7-0.

The Angels have been led on offense in August by a pair of outfielders. Torii Hunter is hitting .372/.427/.596 with five home runs in 25 games, and Peter Bourjos has hit .326/.366/.611, with a nice power surge of five doubles, two triples, and six home runs. The duo has combined to score 37 runs in 25 games during a month that the Angels are averaging 4.68 runs per contest, their highest-scoring month of the season.

Vasquez won his major league debut last Tuesday against the Cleveland Indians, though he didn't pitch particularly well. Vazquez allowed six runs (five earned) and nine hits in his 5 1/3 innings.

Tuesday night's game will be televised by Fox Sports West. For more news and information on the Angels, be sure to read Halos Heaven.
