Joel Pineiro Opens Angels Four-Game Series Against Mariners In Seattle

Joel Pineiro has eight walks and seven strikeouts in 27 1/3 innings since the All-Star break.

The Los Angeles Angels look to rebound from a weekend series loss in Texas, as they open a four-game series Monday night against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field. The Angels battle the Mariners seven times in the next 10 days. Former Mariner Joel Pineiro gets the start Monday for the Angels, making his first start in nine days.

Pineiro lost his spot in the starting rotation after four horrid starts following the All-Star break, but returned to the rotation on August 20, allowing four runs in six innings to the Baltimore Orioles. Because the Angels shifted their rotation to have Ervin Santana and Jered Weaver face the Rangers over the weekend, Pineiro hasn't pitched in eight days.

Pineiro has eight walks and seven strikeouts in 27 1/3 innings since the All-Star break. He has beaten his former team three straight times, including a win against the Mariners in Anaheim on July 9, when Pineiro allowed three runs in seven innings.

Rookie Blake Beavan, who is 3-4 with a 4.14 ERA in nine starts this season, gets the start for Seattle. Beavan allowed one run in eight innings in a win over the Angels on August 6, and has allowed three runs in 14 1/3 innings in two starts against the Halos this season. The Angels are 8-4 against the Mariners this season, including 2-3 in Seattle.

Monday night's 7:10 p.m. PDT game will be televised by Fox Sports West. For more news and information on the Angels, be sure to read Halos Heaven.
