Angels Promote Top Prospect Mike Trout To Big Leagues

As if battling for first place in the American League West wasn't enough excitement for Angels fans, Friday night should provide even more. The Angels announced Thursday night that outfielder Mike Trout, the club's top prospect and one of the very top prospects in baseball, would be recalled before tonight's game with the Mariners. At 19 years, 335 days old, Trout will be the youngest Angel since Andy Hassler in 1971.

Trout has been battling Bryce Harper for overall top MLB prospect status this season. Trout topped the preseason list at MLB.com, while Harper was on top of Baseball America's midseason list earlier this week. Trout was hitting .324/.415/.534 with 32 extra-base hits and 28 stolen bases in 75 games in Double A this season. He has scored 205 runs in 250 minor league games.

The Angels have not yet announced the roster move to make room for Trout, but it is believed to be Peter Bourjos to the disabled list. Bourjos left Thursday's game after straining his right hamstring while running the bases.
