Big A's First Inning Sinks Pineiro, Angels, 9-1

The Angels needed a win Sunday afternoon to split their four-game series in Oakland, but it was apparent from the start that today wasn't going the Angels' way. Here was the bottom of the first inning for the A's off Joel Pineiro:

  • Jemile Weeks walked
  • Coco Crisp walked
  • Josh Willingham walked
  • Hideki Matsui singled, two runs scored. 2-0
  • Scott Sizemore walked
  • David DeJesus reached on an error, one run scored. 3-0
  • Conor Jackson hit a grand slam. 7-0
  • Kurt Suzuki grounded to third. One out!
  • Cliff Pennington doubled
  • Jemile Weeks singled, one runs scored. 8-0

Ten batters in, the Angels were down 8-0 and Pineiro hit the showers. Gio Gonzalez pitched seven scoreless innings to pick up the win for Oakland, who won 9-1. The loss stopped a streak of eight straight series wins for the Angels. Their last series loss was June 10-12 against Kansas City.
