Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Vernon Wells broke out with two home runs and three RBI, sending the Angels over the Mariners, 6-3, in the opener of a three-game series. Wells came in hitting .189 and had not homered since May 7, but his two-run blast in the seventh provided the difference for Los Angeles, which had lost nine of 11 coming in.
Bobby Abreu and Howie Kendrick each had two hits and an RBI, while Dan Haren (6-4) earned the victory after giving up three runs on seven hits over six frames. Jason Vargas (4-4) was on the opposite end of the decision as he was charged with five runs on six hits over his seven-inning start. Jered Weaver starts for the Angels on Tuesday, facing Doug Fister of the Mariners, in the second game of the series in Seattle.
