Jered Weaver Wins Again, Shuts Out A's In Angels' 5-0 Win

Jered Weaver continued to run roughshod through the American League, pitching a seven-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts as the Los Angeles Angels beat the Oakland A's 5-0 in the opening game of a three-game series at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Weaver won for the sixth time in as many starts this season. He leads all of MLB in wins, strikeouts (49), and ERA (0.99).

The Angels scored two in the second inning on a single by Howie Kendrick, and added another when Bobby Abreu doubled in Peter Bourjos in the third. The Angels added two more runs in the fourth inning off Gio Gonzalez, who fell to 2-2 on the season for Oakland. Kendrick had two hits for the Angels, and every starter reached base except for Jeff Mathis.

The Angels face Oakland on Tuesday night in Anaheim, with Tyler Chatwood facing Brandon McCarthy.
