The Los Angeles Angels ran into the buzzsaw that is the Cleveland Indians on Monday night, as Mitch Talbot pitched eight scoreless innings, leading Cleveland to a 4-0 win over the Angels in Anaheim. It was the eighth straight win for Cleveland, who sits atop the AL Central. The loss by the Angels spoiled the major league debut of Tyler Chatwood. Chatwood, the youngest pitcher in MLB at 21 years, 116 days old, allowed four runs in five innings and got stuck with the loss.
Chatwood allowed a solo home run in the first inning to Asdrubal Cabrera, then allowed a three-run shot to Matt LaPorta in the second inning. However, Chatwood settled down after that, completing five innings. Chatwood didn't allow another hit after the LaPorta home run, but he did walk four, including three in the fifth inning.
Talbot pitched eight scoreless innings for his first win of the season, and lowered his ERA to 1.46. Vernon Wells went 0-for-4 and has just four hits in 44 at-bats on the season, hitting .091. Dan Haren will start Tuesday night for the Angels, against Fausto Carmona of Cleveland.
