Joel Pineiro had a strong second outing today for the Los Angeles Angels, who lost 2-1 to the Milwaukee Brewers at Maryvale Baseball Park in Phoenix, Arizona. The right-hander pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. "I had a good bullpen and was concentrating on keeping the sinker down," Piniero told the Associated Press. "I got a lot of balls on the ground. It was just a matter of commanding the zone." In the spring, Pineiro has allowed just four hits in five scoreless innings, and has neither walked nor struck out a batter.
The Brewers' lone runs came in the form of a two-run home run off the bat of Prince Fielder, who was designated hitter today for Milwaukee. Fielder blasted a pitch from Kevin Jepsen to dead center field in the fourth inning. The Angels, who gave several regulars the day off today, didn't score until pushing across a run in the ninth inning.
The Angels return home to Tempe Diablo Stadium on Sunday to face the Arizona Diamondbacks. Angels' ace Jered Weaver gets the start, against former Halo Joe Saunders, who will start for Arizona. Also slated to pitch for the Angels are Tyler Chatwood, Rich Thompson, Francisco Rodriguez, and Matt Meyer. Sunday's 12:05 p.m. PST start will be televised by Fox Sports West.
