Angels GM Search: Jerry DiPoto Wanted In Baltimore, Too

The Los Angeles Angels have Jerry Dipoto on their list of candidates to interview for their vacant general manager post. However, the Senior Vice President of Scouting and Player Development for the Arizona Diamondbacks is in demand this winter. Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun thinks Dipoto is the favorite for the Baltimore Orioles GM job:

The Angels are rumored to be interviewing a boatload of top candidates. The process could take a while and, just by sheer numbers, Dipoto has a lesser chance of landing that one. The Orioles right now are at two candidates, likely won’t go much higher than that, and have shown a willingness to get this done sooner than later. So Dipoto, conceivably, could have an offer in hand from the Orioles while waiting on the Angels’ next move. And it’s often better to have an Oriole in hand.

As fun as it might be to have the guy who traded Dan Haren to the Angels as their GM, it is true that Jerry Dipoto's resume doesn't stack up to those of Kim Ng and Rick Hahn, both of whom will also be interviewed by the Halos. There are only 30 major league general manager jobs in the world, so if Dipoto gets an offer from Baltimore it wouldn't be surprising to see him take it.
