Angels Beat Oakland 2-1 In 11 Innings

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Torii Hunter's RBI single in the 11th inning helped the Angels beat the Athletics, 2-1, and sweep a three-game series at Angel Stadium.

Howie Kendrick went 3-for-6 and drove in the other run for the Angels, who overtook the Athletics for second place in the AL West, which was claimed by the Rangers earlier this week. Bobby Cassevah (1-2) grabbed the win for two innings of scoreless relief after Joel Pineiro allowed one run on five hits in a seven-inning start.

Rajai Davis went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI for the Athletics, who have lost a season-high six in a row. Mark Ellis added two hits in defeat.

Bobby Cramer pitched well in the start, yielding one run, three hits and two walks in 6 2/3 frames. Brad Ziegler (3-7) took the loss.

With Ziegler on the mound in the 11th, Jeff Mathis singled with one out, and Kendrick notched an infield single when Ellis couldn't handle a sharply hit ground ball.

Hunter stepped up and lined a shot through the infield and into left-center, easily scoring Mathis with the game-winning run.

The Angels jumped on top in the third.

Mark Trumbo and Hank Conger both walked to begin the inning, and Peter Bourjos put down a successful bunt to move the runners to second and third. Kendrick followed with an RBI groundout for the game's first run.

The A's came back to tie the game in the fifth. Chris Carter singled -- his first hit on the road after 38 unsuccessful at-bats -- and moved to second when the hit wasn't fielded cleanly. Davis followed with an RBI double two batters later for a 1-1 contest.

Los Angeles loaded the bases with one out in both the ninth and 10th innings, but couldn't push the winning run across.

Cassevah earned his first major league win...Oakland is 4-7 in extra-inning games, while the Angels are 8-7...Los Angeles won the season series, 11-8...Carter's 0-for-38 skid on the road was the longest in A's history.
