The Long Beach St. 49ers defeated Division II BYU-Hawaii, 82-65, on Saturday behind a dominant performance by James Ennis.
Ennis scored 29 points and pulled down 15 rebounds with three blocks as the Seasiders had no answer for the 6'7 senior guard-forward. It was Ennis's second double-double of the season. Mike Caffey added 21 points, 11 rebounds and six steals as the 49ers dominated on the boards, outrebounding the Seasiders, 47-25. Deng Deng scored 11 points off the bench.
The 49ers led by as many as 17 and blew the game open by closing the final 7:16 of the first half on an 18-6 run.
The 49ers have been up and down this season, beating the teams they should, but struggling against any team with a semblance of elite talent. Their four wins this season have come against Fresno State, Loyola Marymount, BYU-Hawaii and North Alabama, but they have dropped games to ranked teams, leading to their 4-6 overall record.
