The LA Galaxy are playing host to Tottenham Hotspur as they begin their US preseason tour. Tomorrow evening at The Home Depot Center the two squads will face off in a friendly, but the match will likely be defined less by who's there than by who isn't there. For the Galaxy, David Beckham and Landon Donovan will be off at the MLS All Star Game, and Tottenham is without Luka Modric who failed to report for the US tour.
Modric was fined for his failure to report to the Tottenham tour, and his refusal to train as the Croation holds out for a transfer to Real Madrid. Last summer, under similar circumstances, Spurs refused to negotiate but it appears this year they may have had enough.
On the Galaxy side, Beckham and Donovan had to chose between the MLS All Star Game and the Tottenham friendly, and the powers that be shipped them off to Philadelphia. Donovan reported to MLS All Star Game practice this morning, though David Beckham was reportedly in the UK this morning according to adidas. The Galaxy have said he is expected to play in the ASG, so it's likely he'll be in practice tomorrow.
The match will be broadcast locally on KDOC and KWHY, in English and in Spanish respectively, starting at 7:30pm. The MLS All Star game will be played Wednesday and broadcast live on ESPN2, where the MLS All Stars will take on UEFA Champions League winners and FA Cup winers Chelsea. Of course, Chelsea is down a star too with Didier Drogba signing up to play with the Chinese league next year.
