After three weeks of MLS play, the two LA MLS teams are at the bottom of the West with three points each, although the LA Galaxy are one of only two Western Conference teams that have only had two matches. Chivas USA picked up their first win on Saturday, while the Galaxy got their three points last Sunday.
Casey Townsend was the man of the match for Chivas on Saturday, as they defeated Real Salt Lake 1-0. Townsend challenged Nick Rimando on a cross, and when the ball fell the to the pitch; smashed it in for the matches loan goal. The Goats picked up four yellow cards in a rough one, but managed to steal three points on the road at Rio Tinto Stadium; completely against the odds. After losing their first two matches 0-1 at home, Chivas finally got a goal back.
The LA Galaxy have the weekend off, and are in 8th place to Chivas' 9th by virtue of goal differential. The Galaxy are currently even on the season, after losing their first match 1-3 (to RSL) and then defeating DC United 3-1. LA won on the strength of a Robbie Keane brace, and Marcelo Sarvas' first MLS goal put the cap on the afternoon.
Surprisingly, the sophomore Vancouver Whitecaps currently are in first place in the West, with two victories and a draw. With Chivas USA's victory on Saturday, every team in the West has at least one victory. The East has four teams still seeking out a victory.
