The Los Angeles Galaxy announced Friday that forward Robbie Keane and midfielders Dan Keat and Christian Wilhelmsson would be leaving the team to play for their national teams in the UEFA World Cup Qualifiers following Saturday's game against Real Salt Lake.
Keane (Ireland), Keat (New Zealand) and Wilhelmsson (Sweden) will leave on Sunday and return around October 17 before Los Angeles' final road game of the season against the San Jose Earthquakes. Galaxy forward Jose Villarreal will also be participating in national play as he plans on participating in the 2012 Marbella Cup for the U.S. Under-20 National Team.
Keane leads the Galaxy in goals scored this season with 14 and is Irelands all-time leading scorer with 54 goals in 120 appearances. Wilhelmsson has scored two goals for L.A. since joining the club last month and has nine goals in 78 career appearances for Sweden. Unlike the other two, Keat will be in the Oceania region. He did not play in New Zealand's first two qualifiers last month.
All four of these players will be available in Saturday night's pivotal game against Real Salt Lake at The Home Depot Center.
