David Beckham, Bruce Arena, And Tim Leiweke Formally Announce New Two Year Deal With LA Galaxy

Today president of AEG Tim Leiweke was able to announce that the LAGalaxy had signed midfielder David Beckham to a two year contract at Staples Center on January 19, 2012 in Los Angeles, California. LA Galaxy Head Coach Bruce Arena was there to express his happiness with the star returning. The conference was capped off with a presentation to Beckham of his new jersey.

The new Galaxy home jersey pays tribute to the shirt the Galaxy wore before they signed David Beckham, with a sash across the front. The sash shirt was first designed by Nike, and later adopted by the National Team. Adidas did one year of sash, in a shirt that followed the same template as the new jersey, before redesigning the Galaxy for David Beckham.

But there was more to the conference than new shirts and three star logos. Those in attendance and those watching the live stream learned that the decision to stay in Los Angeles was made over a glass of wine at home at New Years. The picture Beckham painted of his home life was quiet and simple, with his kids education seeming to take precedence over the pursuit of wealth.

The Galaxy start pre-season camp on Monday, and this year will be Beckham's first full camp. With Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane on loan, Beckham will have to step up and mentor the new recruits as well as find the rhythm with his new partner in central midfield Marcelo Sarvas. The Galaxy will participate in a preseason tournament in Arizona, before a CONCACAF Champions league series with Toronto and MLS First Kick in March.
