UCLA Bruins running back Johnathan Franklin was named to the Football Writers Association's first team All-America, the school announced on Friday.
Franklin was a finalist for the Doak Walker Award after ending his career this year as one of the more prolific running backs in UCLA history, setting record after record en route to rushing 1,700 yards.
Franklin's 1,700 yards this year set UCLA's single season record, and he broke UCLA's career record by more than 600 yards as Franklin finished his career with 4,369 yards, beating out current NFL superstar Maurice Jones-Drew's old mark of 4,688.
He was fifth in the NCAA in rushing yards this year, and third in total yards from scrimmage. Franklin rushed for over 100 yards nine times this season.
His strong rushing helped lead the Bruins to a 9-4 record and a spot in the Bridgepoint Education Bowl against the Baylor Bears on Dec. 27.
