Chivas USA Vs. Sounders Recap: Johnson, Seattle Prove Too Much For Chivas

Despite a defensive minded effort, the Seattle Sounders' Eddie Johnson scored twice, including a key 89th minute strike, to down Chivas USA on Saturday, 2-1.

Chivas USA struck first against Seatlle, as Nick LaBrocca scored in the box off of a pass from Shalrie Joseph in the eighth minute. The Chivas goal broke Seattle goalie Michael Gspurning's 389-minute clean sheet streak at home.

Early defensive stands kept Seattle off of the scoreboard, as Chivas tried to keep the Sounders from gaining ground in the Western Conference race as the MLS season winds down. But in the 29th minute, Johnson equalized, scoring on a header off of a free kick from Christian Tiffert.

Locked in a scoreless battle for the next 60 minutes, both teams fought hard, but kept penalties and cards to a minimum, as only two cautions and no cards were given.

Finally, in the 89th minute, Johnson finished a cross from Shalrie Joseph with another header, sending Seattle to the victory.
