Chivas USA Vs. Columbus Crew Recap: Late Goal Sinks Chivas USA, 1-0

Columbus Crew forward Justin Meram struck a left-footed shot past Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy in the 89th minute on Wednesday night as the Crew defeated Chivas, 1-0.

The game-winner came off an assist from a headed pass by forward Jairo Arrieta as full time neared its end, and it was one of 21 shots from the Crew. Chivas managed just nine shots and couldn't muster up enough offense to come up with an equalizer.

Chivas midfielder Oswaldo Minda nearly tied the game up when he struck a right-footed shot from just outside of the box that was saved by Columbus keeper Andy Gruenebaum.

The possession battle was another key component of the match, as total time of possession favored the Crew, 55%-45%. Columbus notched five saves while Chivas managed three.
