After going 16-0 in the month of December, the Los Angeles Clippers begin the new year by putting their winning streak on the line in Denver against the Nuggets.

It was a December to remember for the Los Angeles Clippers, who posted a perfect record of 16-0. Now, they must begin 2013 by putting their lengthy winning streak on the line against the Denver Nuggets.

The game will be played in Denver, a place where the Nuggets have recently been able to take care of business, going 9-1 in their last 10 at home.

The Clippers have been able to build this long winning streak with consistent play on both offense and defense. Los Angeles has allowed 100 or more points just three times during the winning streak while winning 11 of the 17 games by 12 or more points.

These two teams met recently on Christmas at the Staples Center with Los Angeles earning a 112-100 win. A big key to that victory was the Clippers holding Danilo Gallinari to just 1-of-10 shooting. Containing his long-range shooting abilities will again be key.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT.

The Los Angeles Lakers look to continue their red-hot play when they host the Philadelphia 76ers

The Los Angeles Lakers finally appear to have figured out what their early-season problems were, as the team goes for their seventh win in eight games Tuesday against the 76ers.

The Lakers have seen an offensive explosion in recent weeks, as they are averaging 107.1 points per game during this recent 6-1 stretch. A big reason for this has been the return of point guard Steve Nash, whose floor general abilities have led to a great rise in the Lakers assists per game, going from 21 per game in his absence to 28 with him.

As for the 76ers, they are trending in the opposite direction as they have lost eight of their last 10 games. They have also had tremendous problems winning games on the road, as they are losers of eight of their last nine away from the Wells Fargo Center.

In order to pick up a win at the Staple's Center, Philadelphia will needed continued contributions from Jrue Holiday, who is currently averaging a career-high 18.6 points per game.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT.

Although USC quarterback Matt Barkley is still yet to practice, head coach Lane Kiffin expects him to play in the Sun Bowl.

Following USC's practice in preparation of the Sun Bowl on Friday, head coach Lane Kiffin said that quarterback Matt Barkley is still expected to play in the game December 31 against Georgia Tech.

Here is what he had to say in the team's practice roundup.

"Matt [Barkley] was out here today. As we have said all along, we don't plan on him practicing until we are down there."

In Barkley's place, freshman Max Wittek has seen the bulk of the snaps with the first team, as he continues to gain experience before presumably taking over the offense next season.

In 11 games this season, Barkley has completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 3,273 yards and led the Pac-12 with 36 touchdowns. In his only start of the season against Notre Dame, Wittek threw for 186 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions.

Here is video from Lane Kiffin's post-practice press conference Friday.

The Los Angeles Lakers look to continue their turnaround from their early season woes, but a road game against the Golden State Warriors Saturday will make the task tough.

The Los Angeles Lakers continue to put their slow start behind them, as they bring a three-game win streak into their contest against the Golden State Warriors Saturday.

It will not be easy for the Lakers to keep their momentum going, as the Warriors have had a very hot start to the season and currently sit in second place in the Pacific Division with a record of 18-9.

Los Angeles will have their hands full with a Warriors lineup that is full of scorers. Forward David Lee is averaging 19.8 ppg and has scored at least 20 points in 10 straight games. Guard Stephen Curry, who leads the Warriors with 19.9 ppg has also been able to light up the scoreboard. he is coming off a season-high 32 points scored in the team's loss to the Sacramento Kings Wednesday and is shooting .487 from behind the arc in the last 17 games.

Lakers forward Pau Gasol will look to continue his dominance over Golden State, as he averaged 23.2 points and 11.8 rebounds in his last 18 games against the Warriors. Los Angeles has dominated Golden State in recent years, winning 17 of the last 18 meetings, including an 8-1 mark at Oracle Arena.

Tip-off between the Lakers and Warriors at Oracle Arena is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PST. It will be televised on Time Warner Cable Sportsnet.

Albert Pujols is ranked fifth in American League all-star voting among first basemen.

Although he had gotten off to a terrible start to the 2012 season, Albert Pujols's star power is still showing in the fact that he ranks fifth among American League first basemen with a little over a million votes.

Pujols has recovered nicely from his terrible start as he is now hitting .256 with 10 home runs. His work is still cut out for him, as he is still nearly 900,000 votes behind the leading vote receiver for first basemen, Prince Fielder of the Detroit Tigers.

The 2012 NBA Draft is coming quickly, and with that come the mock drafts that try to predict where players will end up. The latest mock comes from Sheridan Hoops, who feels that the Los Angeles Clippers will take small forward Kim English out of Missouri with their only pick of the draft, which will be the 53rd overall selection.

As staff writer Joe Kotoch writes, there are many good things about English that makes him a good fit for the Clippers.

"English is a solid all-around player that can shoot. English has high IQ and can play all along the perimeter, which would help the Clippers."

There are many other small forwards that are predicted by this mock to go in the following picks after the Clippers, including Kris Joseph of Syracuse, Khris Middleton of Texas A&M and Hollis Thompson of Georgetown. These are all names that Clippers fans will want to keep tabs on.

The quarterfinal round of the 2012 Big West Tournament quarterfinals featured both the expected and the unexpected, with the big headline of the day being the shocking upset of No. 7 seed UC Irvine over No. 2 seed Cal State Fullerton.

In the first contest of the day, No. 3 seed UC Santa Barbara downed No. 6 seeded Pacific 72-52.
