Jean-Francois Jacques and Francois Beauchemin had disciplinary hearings with the NHL Monday afternoon for their hits in the Anaheim Ducks’ 7-4 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday night and both emerged with different results.
Beauchemin was not suspended or fined for his blindsiding neutral ice hit on Columbus' Jeff Carter, who has a separated shoulder early in the third period.
Jacques, however, received a three-game suspension for his hit an elbow to R.J. Umberger with 5:43 left in the game. He was given a five-minute major for boarding during the game.
NHL Senior Vice President, Player Safety and Hockey Operations Brendan Shanahan said that the hit is a clear violation of Rule 48.1 for an illegal check to the head.
The Ducks' next three games are Tuesday against the Stars, at Calgary on Thursday and Friday in Edmonton.
