The Anaheim Ducks owe their 2-0 lead over the Washington Capitals going into the second period to the country of Finland. Nine minutes into the first period, Ducks center Saku Koivu hit a wirst shot from 28 feet out to put the Ducks up 1-0. The Caps failed to clear the puck after it went behind the net, and Koivu took Teemu Selanne's pass while drifting to the left and finessed it in.
It was Selanne who then scored the Duck's next goal. Toni Lydman missed a wrist shot from 43 feet out, but Koivu picked up the puck and centered it to Selanne who wrist shot it in just outside the crease. The two full strength goals put the Ducks up 2-0 going into the first intermission.
The first period saw just one major penalty, Belesky and Hendricks for fighting. Otherwise, it's been a free flowing and open game which favors the Ducks more than it does the Capitals. The Caps have only had two minutes of power play time, and managed just one shot on goal from 50 feet out.
