The Anaheim Ducks continued their busy day of transactions before tonight's contest with the New York Islanders at Honda Center. The club announced today that Luca Sbisa was recalled from and Danny Syvret was assigned to the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL in a swap of defensemen. Earlier in the day, the Ducks assigned both Dan Sextion and Matt Beleskey to Syracuse.
Sbisa played in two games with the Ducks earlier this season. Syvret scored one goal and had one assist for the Ducks in six games this season. Both Sbisa and Syvret have split time between Anaheim and Syracuse this season. Arthur from Anaheim Calling analyzed what the transactions mean for the Ducks going forward:
If Sbisa wins a spot, Anaheim has to start considering what to do when Sutton gets back. Lilja, Brookbank and Mara have all had their troubles. Mara has struggled recently, Brookbank has struggled throughout except for his last two games and Lilja has been inconsistent from shift to shift, certainly nothing that could hold back a confident Sbisa. Still, with Mara playing well with Fowler and Brookbank being a two year contract, the most logical odd man out in a healthy Sutton situation is Lilja. That's assuming you're dumping the contract.
The Ducks look to extend their winning streak to five games tonight against the Islanders, who have lost seven games in a row.
