Ducks Fall To Blue Jackets, 3-1

Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Rick Nash scored twice to lead Columbus to a 3-1 win over Anaheim at Nationwide Arena.

Derek MacKenzie added the other goal and Steve Mason turned away 31 shots for the Blue Jackets, who have won three of four since an opening night loss.

Teemu Selanne scored his 609th career goal to move into sole possession of 16th place on the all-time list, but the Ducks lost for the fifth time in seven games to start the season.

Jonas Hiller stopped 19 shots in defeat.

Columbus broke the scoreless deadlock 3 1/2 minutes into the second period.

MacKenzie blocked a shot at the point, picked up the disc and raced down the left side before he snapped a shot from the bottom of the circle that beat Hiller to the short side.

"I thought we played well," MacKenzie said. "Do we have room to improve, yeah. There were a few parts in the game where we took penalties and those are things on some nights that are going to catch up to us. For the most part, the guys had a gritty, hard-working game. We did exactly what we planned to do and we got the two points."

The Jackets scored again just 71 seconds later when Nash's attempted pass to Antoine Vermette on the right doorstep caromed off defenseman Toni Lydman past Hiller.

Selanne got the Ducks on the board 58 seconds into the third period as he took a pass from Jason Blake at the Columbus blue line and snapped a shot from the right circle past Mason.

Nash took an errant pass off the right boards and shot from outside the blueline into the empty Anaheim net to seal the win with 28 seconds to play.

Anaheim, which had come into the game with six goals in 19 man-advantage chances in the last four games, went 0-for-5 on the power play.

"I think we did some things very well, but we made mistakes, too," Anaheim head coach Randy Carlyle said. "Tonight our power play was good in some situations, as far as creating chances. But in the latter part, we just stood around and didn't really move and attack the box. We got some shots, but everything was from the perimeter."
