BMW Championship 2012: Ian Poulter Takes Early Lead, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy Lurking

The first round of the 2012 BMW Championship is well underway, and it's getting crowded at the top of the leaderboard Thursday at Crooked Stick.

Englishman Ian Poulter and Bo Van Pelt have the lead, after firing opening-nine scores of 31 to move to 5-under for the tournament. FedEx Cup points leader Rory McIlroy is keeping pace as well, currently tied for third place at 4-under, along with Tiger Woods, Jimmy Walker and Zach Johnson. Adam Scott, Jim Furyk, Ryan Palmer, Webb Simpson and Tom Gills all find themselves at 3-under for the day.

Although it's still early, the leaderboard remains tight, as the highest score so far today is 2-over, leaving the entire field within striking distance with just a couple of birdies.
