The UCLA Bruins have a tough test ahead against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, but they may get a reprieve if Huskers starting tailback Rex Burkhead isn't able to go. Burkhead sprained his MCL in his left knee this past week in the victory over Southern Miss. The Associated Press has the latest report.
The good news is Burkhead doesn't need surgery, but the bad news is that he might need to sit out this weekend's game against UCLA to ensure the injury is fully healed.
On the positive side for Nebraska, the Huskers have a capable backup who can fill in for him. Ameer Abdullah rushed for 81 yards on 15 carries. Taylor Martinez didn't drop off in his effectiveness with Burkhead out of the game, completing over 75% of his passes for 349 yards and five touchdowns. They will test a UCLA defensive front that is talented but is unsteady, and struggled to stop Rice for a half last week.
