Albert Pujols battling through leg issues

Angels first basemen Albert Pujols is still recovering from leg injury, will continue to be limited at first as Angels continue to chase A's for final playoff spot.

Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia acknowledged Thursday that first baseman Albert Pujols is still working through a leg injury that has limited his play at first base as the Angels chase the Oakland A's for the second AL Wild Card spot.

Scott Miller of CBS Sports writes that Pujols is dealing with discomfort from a calf strain he suffered last month against the Boston Red Sox. Pujols continues to downplay the injury but Scioscia admitted the team is trying to keep the first baseman off his legs as much as possible.

"Right now, Albert's hanging in there," Angels manager Mike Scioscia says. "He's had some leg issues for the past month. Some compensation goes on when you try to play with one part of your body injured, and it can affect you."

Pujols' numbers at the plate haven't suffered too much lately. He's batting .311 over the last 16 games. The Angels are currently two games behind Oakland for the final Wild Card spot.
