The Los Angeles Lakers' two most notable offseason acquisitions, Steve Nash and Dwight Howard, have made them the favorite team to bet on in Las Vegas, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Bettors have overwhelmingly favored the the Lakers at almost a dozen Las Vegas sports books. The reigning champions, the Miami Heat, have more money wagered on them, but the Lakers retain the edge in the amount of total bets placed.
"People just keep betting them," Jay Kornegay, vice president of race and sports for the Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, said of the Lakers, "and I can understand why."
The Lakers have made a number of moves in the offseason, ranging from the acquisition of two All-Stars to hiring new coaches that will help the team adopt the Princeton offense, a scheme similar to the triangle offense that helped orchestrate five NBA titles under coaching legend Phil Jackson.
