Tiger Woods aims to win his third FedEx Cup, and is in good position to make a bid at the championship. Situated in the second position going into the tournament, Woods trails only Rory McIlroy in the overall standings and can finish in first place with a win in the 2012 TOUR Championship.
If McIlroy wins, he's guaranteed a win -- but even if he doesn't, he's still in a good spot to win the Cup. That changes if Woods wins the TOUR Championship. Even a top-three finish gives him a reasonable shot at winning the whole thing, although he's probably going to need McIlroy to perform a lot worse in the overall standings.
The other Los Angeles golfers have a lot of catching up to do. Hunter Mahan is currently 23rd, John Huh is 26th and Rickie Fowler is 27th. All of them need to win, and get a lot of help while doing so.
