The USC Trojans basketball team received a new transfer with the arrival of Rice center Omar Oraby.
Oraby played in 34 games last season and had six points and 3.6 rebounds per game last year, but perhaps his biggest asset is his shot-blocking ability, recording 56 blocks with the Owls (a school record). He also was a very efficient shooter in his touches, shooting nearly 63% from the field and nailing 71% of their free throw attempts.
Baxter Holmes of the Los Angeles Times has more on the story. As a junior, Oraby has two years of eligibility left. The Trojans plan to file a hardship waiver to try and ensure he can play this season. If the appeal fails, he will have to sit ou the upcoming season. The Trojans now have three seven-footers on their roster, with both Dewayne Dedmon and James Blasczyk already on the team.
