2012 Olympics, Women's Water Polo Final: United States Defeats Spain, Wins Gold Medal

After a disappointing silver medal finish back in 2008 at the Beijing Olympics, the United States women's water polo team was determined to bring home gold from London. Backed by an incredible performance from Maggie Steffens, Team USA defeated Spain in the final match by a score of 8-5.

The team, which featured UCLA standouts Courtney Mathewson and Kelly Rulon and USC stars Tumua Anae and Kami Craig, led nearly the entire way in what was quite the display of endurance and talent. The match was over when Steffens, who is just 19 years old, scored four-straight goals. She finished with a total of five goals and an assist.

No other water polo team from the United States has won gold since 1904.
