The United States of America is closing in on the overall medal-count at the 2012 Olympic Games in London after a medal-filled Wednesday of action across the board, including a number of golds for American olympians.
The good old U.S. of A added 8 medals to their count on Wednesday, including gold for Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor in women's beach volleyball, Brittany Reese in the women's long jump, Allyson Felix in the women's 200 meter, and Lashinda Demus claiming the silver medal in the 400 meter hurdles as well.
All-in-all America now has 81 medals, with 34 gold, 22 silver and 25 bronze. Behind them sits China with 77 total medals, consisting of 36 gold, 22 silver and 19 bronze. Russia is in a distant third with 52 medals, hosts Great Britain in fourth with 48 medals, and Germany rounding out the top five with 32 medals.
