It was a stacked field in the women's 200 meter final. There was the 100 meter winner in Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce from Jamaica, there was the 400 meter winner in Sanya Richards-Ross, the second place finisher in the 100 meter in Carmelita Jeter of the United States, and the two-time defending champion in the 200 meters in Veronica Campbell-Brown, who captured gold in Beijing and Athens.
But they were all chasing Allyson Felix. Felix was the favorite in the 200 meters going in, as this was her specialty and her race to win. And Felix proved why she was favored to win here with a dashing race, streaking to the front and staying on top the entire way to outdistance her competitors.
