Team USA women's beach volleyball duo, Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings, defeated the no. 2 ranked team in the world in China's Xue Chen and Zhang Zi, 22-20, 22-20, to advance to the gold medal game.
Chen and Xi had defeated Walsh and May-Treanor three consecutive times and were the bronze medalists in Beijing.
May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings are looking to capture their third straight Olympic gold medal after becoming the first team ever to repeat as champions after grabbing their second consecutive title at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
This Olympic games is special for May-Treanor as the Long Beach resident and Long Beach State graduate has plans to retire after the games are complete. By the way her and Walsh Jennings are playing, it is clear the duo wants to send May-Treanor off with a gold medal.
