The United States men's basketball team is still undefeated. And they breezed through their last test of pool play with flying colors. The USA outscored Argentina 42-17 in the third quarter to turn a one point lead into 26, and then coasted their way to the end of the contest to win 126-97.
In terms of basketball players with Los Angeles connections, Clipper point guard Chris Paul had 17 points, seven assists, four rebounds and three steals. Former UCLA power forward Kevin Love continues to provide all-around excellent play with 13 points and nine rebounds (including five on the offensive glass). Lakers star Kobe Bryant struggled, shooting 3/10 from the field with 11 points. Russell Westbrook struggled to score, but did have this spectacular dunk.
The USA moves on to face Australia in the quarterfinals, and would face the winner of Brazil and Argentina in the semifinals. So far, so good in the quest for repeat gold for Team USA.
