The 2012 adidas Nations in Orange County continued on Saturday afternoon, with four more games of pool play that count towards the final rounds of the tournament. Five of the top high school basketball players from the Los Angeles area got to test their skills against a deep pool of opponents from all over the world.
In the first game on Saturday, USA 2013 Blue defeated Europe by a score of 87-43. Jordan Mathews from Santa Monica had the biggest night of all the local players in this game. The guard scored 15 points, shooting 6-for-13 from the floor and 1-for-4 from three-point range. He also added three rebounds and one assist for USA 2013 Blue in the win.
Also on USA 2013 Blue are Isaac Hamilton from Los Angeles and Jordan Bell from Long Beach. Bell had no field goal attempts, but picked up four rebounds, an assist, two blocks and two steals. Hamilton was 3-for-11 with six points, three rebounds, an assist and four steals.
In the second game, USA 2014 Red defeated Latin America, 101-72. Tyler Dorsey from Pasadena went 2-for-7 with five points, four rebounds and two assists.
The third game featured USA 2013 Red beating Africa by a final score of 74-67. No local players were represented on the Red team.
The final game of the day had the surprising Australia team winning their second game in the Nations by routing USA 2014 Blue, 83-61. Four different players from Australia scored double digits in the game, against just two from Blue. Daniel Hamilton from Los Angeles scored four points and had a rebound and a steal.
The evening was capped off with a pair of college counselor scrimmages. The 2012 adidas Nations will continue on Sunday and will wrap up with the finals on Monday, which will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
