Team USA added another silver to the medal count, picking up the second place finish in the women's team pursuit final. Great Britain took the gold medal, and Canada rounded out the podium. Sarah Hammer of Redondo Beach was instrumental in the win, driving hard for two laps in the qualifying heat to make sure the Americans had a chance in the final. Dotsie Bausch and Lauren Tamayo were her teammates in the gold medal round.
The medal is Hammer's first. She competed in Beijing in 2008 but placed fifth in the individual pursuit event and had to abandon the points race. Having collected one medal so far, she will go on to compete in the women's omnium event, taking place Aug. 6 and 7.
