2012 Olympics, Women's 50m Freestyle: Jessica Hardy Finishes 7th

Jessica Hardy, a native of the Long Beach area in southern California, was the lone representative from the United States in the women's 50m freestyle final. She entered the race as an underdog, but anyone who has seen a 50m race before (just one time down the pool) knows everyone has a chance to win.

Unfortunately for Hardy and Team USA, she finished in 7th place after racing in 24.62 seconds.

Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands was the favorite to win gold and she did just that on Saturday. She finished in 24.05, an Olympic record just short of the world record. Aliaksandra Herasimenia of Belarus took home silver after swimming a 24.28. Marleen Veldhuis, also of the Netherlands, won bronze in 24.39 seconds.
