2012 Olympics, Rowing Men's Quadruple Sculls: Germany Takes The Home Gold Medal

The men's rowing quadruple sculls final took place on Friday at the 2012 London Olympic games, and came with a bit of an upset as the team from Germany beat favorite Croatia to win gold at the Olympic rowing regatta.

The crew of Karl Schulze, Phillipp Wende, Lauritz Schoof and Tim Grohmann led the entire race, finishing in a time of 5 minutes, 42.48 seconds. Croatia was a full length behind them to take the silver, while the Australian team took the bronze.

The Aussies won the 2011 world championship but they and Germany had been topped this year by the Croatians, who won all three World Cup regattas of 2012 and qualified fastest for the Olympic final. This was Germany's second gold of the regatta.
