2012 U.S. Open Tennis: Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Serena Williams Lead Loaded Draws

With the tune-up and lead-up tournaments complete, the U.S. Open finally begins Monday, with a bevy of players aiming to capture the final major of the 2012 season.

Much of the attention in the men's draw will of course focus on Andy Murray, who claimed a surprising victory over Roger Federer in the gold medal match at the 2012 Summer Olympics at Wimbledon. Especially with Rafael Nadal sitting this final major tournament out, Murray and Federer are the focus of the field, and could meet in the Open's semifinal.

Murray opens with a daytime match at Arthur Ashe Stadium against Russia's Alex Bogomolov Jr. on Monday. Federer opens against American Donald Young on Monday night.

Serena Williams highlights another strong women's draw, but it is Bulgaria's Victoria Azarenka who is the field's top seed. Azarenka opens with Russia's Alexandra Panova. Fourth-seeded Serena opens with unseeded Coco Vandeweghe.

Local players, including USC's Maria Sanchez and Huntington Beach's Daniel Kosakowski, were unable to make the field, falling in qualifying rounds.
